Warning: Robo Call, Solicitation for Donations

posted in: Special Announcements

It was recently reported to the District that several residents have received phone calls from an organization named the “Volunteer Firefighters Association” soliciting donations for their organization. They may or may not be using the District’s name in reference. These calls are not from the Scotts Valley Fire District and we are in no way associated with this organization. The Scotts Valley Fire District is taxpayer funded and does not solicit.

The “Volunteer Firefighters Association” organization is a PAC (Political Action Committee) and it’s questionable that your donation will be going to any fire service agency. In fact, there’s been several news organizations that have reported about this particular PAC’s past transgressions. Simply having the words “police” or “firefighter” in an organization’s name doesn’t mean police or firefighters are members of the group. If you would like to donate to a volunteer fire agency, please do so by contacting that agency directly. The Federal Trade Commission has more information on their web page at:

UPDATE: PAC’s use charitable names to try to get your donation dollars
